Cupcake lovers camp overnight for a chance to receive free cupcakes from Lancaster Cupcake | Local News
Such was the case with the early bird who received the cupcake on Thursday morning as Lancaster Cupcake celebrated its 11th birthday with a giveaway that invited people to camp to win a year of free cupcakes.
The stores, located in downtown Lancaster and Granite Run in Manheim Township, promised a dozen free cupcakes each month for a year to the first 11 people at its doors at 9 a.m. Thursday.
According to owner Emily Mitchell, the first people lining up at the Granite Run site started camping at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, with a tent and air mattresses. Unfortunately they had left the store before LancasterOnline arrived, but we had the opportunity to speak to those on the second line.
Watch the video below to hear what they had to say about the experience:
The West Orange Street downtown line started around 3 a.m. Thursday with Selena McIntyre and her pup Benny.
“Lancaster Cupcake got me through my pregnancy,” McIntyre said when asked why she was on the front line. “They supported me with milkshakes on my weekly pregnancy walk and I love them.”
The business started from Mitchell’s home, then a food truck before expanding to its two current locations. Mitchell, who attended “Cupcake Wars” in 2013 with husband Jeff, said the event will continue Friday and Saturday with free cupcakes given away to the first 111 customers.
