The owner of a popular dog daycare center ‘cried’ when she found out her team had been nominated for dog daycare business of the year.
Clare Holmes, 48, from Ipswich Dog Day Care Creche, said she was “super proud” of her team who work hard to give their four-legged customers the care they need.
The owner was encouraged to open the business by her husband after she was made redundant.
The crèche has now been operating in Farthing Road, Ipswich, for five years, providing socialization, activities, play and dog care.
Ms Holmes, who is a qualified puppy trainer, said: ‘We are doing very well. The business has grown since we opened.
“In 2020 we also opened up dog grooming and that has taken off surprisingly.”
Ms. Holmes also tries to educate people about grooming their dogs and the importance of it.
The dog daycare owner said it was her first time entering the contest, which makes her shortlist even more special.
She said: ‘I’m still in shock, I even cried when I got the email.
“I’m so proud of everything we’ve achieved, the team we have here and the people who made it possible.
“A huge amount of credit goes to my staff who work tirelessly every day and take care of our furry customers.”
She added: ‘I have worked in shipping and transit at the Port of Felixstowe for over 20 years.
“When I was fired it made me sit up and think – what’s next?
“My husband said to me- Do something you love. It’s not going to be easy, but if you want to go, go get your dog.
Ms Holmes said the dogs love coming to her house.
She said: ‘The dogs are pulling on a leash to get in because they are so happy to be here.
“Seeing them arrive in the morning all excited is the best compliment for us.
“We were really lucky. The reviews are fantastic. We have to do something right.”
