The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will install an electric incinerator to dispose of pet carcasses at Dahisar Crematorium.

The demand for a pet incinerator has been around for a long time. The company decided to install an electric pet incinerator at the Dahisar crematorium. This will be the first such facility provided by the civic body in Mumbai for pet lovers.

It will be spread over an area of 2,500 square feet and the BMC has already issued a circular to this effect.

Free for pet owners

The Dahisar crematorium will be available for pet owners free of charge.

For stray animals, relevant NGOs will need to certify death before using the facility. The move is especially for pets that have died of illness.

“This initiative is for the animals that cannot speak for themselves,” said Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar.

She added: “There has been a demand for a pet incinerator for a long time. So we decided to install an electric incinerator for pets at Dahisar crematorium. This will be the first such facility provided by the civic body in Mumbai for pet lovers. ”

The civic body is finalizing the contractor for the construction of the crematoria, while a bhoomi pujan is expected to take place this week, an official said. In Dahisar, an oven will be dedicated to small animals.
