Parish calendar Animal blessing
PORTLAND – Animal lovers in Maine are invited to have their animal companions blessed outdoors on the feast of Saint Francis of Assisi on October 4.
All pets are welcome to attend any of the Animal Blessing events. As the prayers progress, the animals will be gently sprinkled with holy water.
Saint Francis of Assisi was known for his love for all of God’s creatures. The blessing is a reminder of that love and also recognizes the important place pets hold in people’s hearts, according to a press release from the Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland.
