Pet pandemic sparks expansion plans for pet food vendor Jollyes with 150 new jobs

Pet food seller Jollyes to create 150 jobs in 20 stores to meet demand from Britons who bought animals during the pandemic

Pet food seller Jollyes will create 150 jobs in 20 stores to meet demand from Britons who bought animals during the pandemic.

It has seen significant growth over the past two years and is ramping up its plans by opening the sites in the next 18 months.

Some will be opened after purchasing smaller competitors, while others will be brand new. Revenues for the retailer, which has 67 stores, rose 21% in the past three months compared to the same quarter two years earlier.

“We have had a very successful year with sensational progress,” said Executive Chairman Richard Cotter. “And we are excited about our future. We’ve worked hard to build a strong platform that will allow us to do a lot more – better stores, wider ranges and more investment in people. ‘

The Pet Food Manufacturers Association says 3 million households have had pets since the start of the pandemic. There are now around 12 million cats and 12 million dogs in UK homes.

Jollyes said he saw a 50% increase in sales of birds such as canaries. Sales of reptiles rose 14%, he added.
