What does the Frankenmuth 2022 dog bowl have in store for us?

Billed as “the greatest Olympic event for dogs in the world,” the Frankenmuth Dog Bowl returns to Michigan’s Little Bavaria on Memorial Day weekend, May 28-29, bringing some familiar new events to dog lovers.

The free annual festival began in 2008 and has grown to feature over 25 fun canine activities, attracting over 100,000 people and thousands of dogs to the city.

To advocate for responsible pet ownership through educational and dog-friendly recreation, the Dog Bowl showcases the high energy, enthusiasm, and athleticism of pooches. The dogs participate in events like Disc Dogs and DockDogs and attend police demonstrations.

With energizing activities, a Dog Bowl King and Queen, a canine cruise or hot air balloons, there is something for all races (human and canine).

Wiener dog owners also have the opportunity to see if they have the fastest pup on Saturday and Sunday.

The festival is expected to feature pet vendors, the crowning of Dog Bowl King and Queen, a pet parade and a canine cruise on the historic Bavarian Belle paddle steamer.

A canine costume contest will be held again this year, which is a favorite among visitors, according to festival organizers.

The festivities begin Friday evening, May 27, with a hot air balloon ride and light-up event on the grounds adjacent to the Frankenmuth River Place Shops, located at 925 S. Main St.

Dog shows begin on Saturday morning and continue throughout the weekend. The festivities end on Monday, May 30, Memorial Day, with an early morning hot air balloon ride scheduled from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m.
