Woman’s pets ate her dead cat after leaving them to starve in house
A woman has been dragged into court after leaving her animals alone for so long that one of them died – before being eaten by the other hungry animals.
Leann McConnell has admitted leaving the tabby cat, which she called ‘Fat S***’, with another cat and a dog at a home in Liverpool for weeks without enough food and water. The other cat, named Tilly and a terrier named Chunk, then ate parts of the animal’s corpse due to hunger, the ECHO Reports.
McConnell appeared in Liverpool Magistrates’ Court this week and admitted several counts of animal neglect. Peter Mitchell, prosecuting for the RSPCA, said McConnell left the animals at the end of October last year and they were discovered the following month. The name of the cat that died was referenced in court documents as “Fat S***”.

Mr Mitchell said: ‘The cat died during this particular time and was eaten as there was no other food for the other animals to eat.’ He said inspectors found the cat’s body, partially eaten. He described the photos of the animals, not shown in court today, as “horrific”.
McConnell took to the stage to confirm his personal details and plead guilty to three counts of causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal.
Toni Moran, defending, said McConnell had significant mental health issues and requested that a pre-sentence report be ordered. She said detectives made reference to the presence of dry food in the house McConnell was living in at the time of the offenses, but said it may prove to be of minimal significance to the case.
Referring to his mental health issues, magistrates referred his case to the Complex Matters Court at Sefton Magistrates’ Court. McConnell, now homeless, will be sentenced there next month.
